Adding spice to your ‘Team Building’ activities

Team building (don’t sigh lol), isn’t something everyone is up for. Most of us are familiar with team building events that are associated with pizza parties, BBQs or the famous escape room. But, did you know that there’s more out there now for business travel? Whether you’re a sole proprietor, small business or a start-up company, here are some options to choose from in order to spice up your next team building event.

There’s a variety of excursions and tours that your colleagues will love and can be customized to suit everyone’s needs. For example, on my last business trip, I signed up for ATVs, zip lining and cenote. Now of course this excursion was an option but it’s ideal for those who love to explore and want to get to know more about their colleagues.

Here’s some group activities to consider for your next team building event.

Discover the underwater world

The needs for business travellers are always changing and suppliers are fine tuning their services in order to exceed their guests’ expectations. Both boats and large cruise ships provide themed experiences, meeting areas, activities and excursions suitable for all personality types. We all love to eat but instead of planning dinner, why not book dinner around a group activity like scuba diving? It doesn’t hurt to ask because your guests might already know about the activity or are certified divers. For those looking for adventure, scuba diving can be done solo or with a group and Paul Gauguin Cruises is no stranger to the underwater world.

Paul Gaugain Cruises offers PADI certification on board and all participants are guided by professional dive masters/instructors. All skill levels are welcome to take part and, for those who are inexperienced,  Paul Gauguin Cruises is the only luxury cruise ship to offer PADI certification for novice divers and refresher courses for experienced, but rusty, divers on board! It also does end there,! Your itinerary may include specific stops like the Society Islands, Tuamotus Islands and the Marquesas Islands and to top it all off, diving equipment is included.

Wellness for thought?

If you’re planning a local or international meeting, you can always opt for the wellness side of travel. Spas offer hiking, yoga, health programs and dietary sessions and resources for those interested. Activities can be customized to your needs and the mini list I provided doesn’t cover nearly the amount of practices that are out there.

Speaking of relaxing, Ryokan accommodations are traditional local Japanese upscale inns. You can sleep on futons on tatami mats in yukatas, experience Japanese cuisine, geisha entertainment or surround yourself in the natural gardens and scenery.

Sea what I did there? I couldn’t help myself. That was the last one. Okay, back to business. Sailing is an activity where a group is forced to work together as a team. Learning how to sail or chartering a boat for team building meetings can really help boost morale. Culinary, dance, crafting and local culture are options you can also keep in mind. It gets everyone thinking and moving around. It’s a bonus for those who are accustomed to sitting in front of a computer screen for hours on end and there’s something about nature (especially when it’s warm) that tends to bring the joy out of us. Besides, it doesn’t hurt to shy away from the routine outings we are used to when it comes to planning events with others.
